Claim your right to say NO “Once you’ve explained the challenges to me, If I don’t think I can help based on your answers, I’ll tell you no as well.” Does that work for you? (You’re selective, not needy.)5. Agree the next step NOW “If neither of us says no, we’ll take a few minutes at the end to map out what happens next. Sound fair?” (Now the frame is set. No ambiguity later. They know you’re in control)That’s it. Five moves. And you’ve just removed 95% of the “maybe,” “let me think about it,” and “circle back next quarter” fluff.Two quick realities: • It will feel awkward at first — rehearse until it’s natural. • If you want to be treated differently, you have to act differently.
